He was visiting scholar at Stanford University and at Carnegie Mellon University.

He has published, among the others, on Management Science, Research Policy, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Health Affairs, Small Business Economics, Physica A, Europhysics Letters.

He is an author of the EU reports on "Innovation and Competitiveness in European Biotechnology" and on "Medical Devices Competitiveness and Impact on Public Health Expenditure".

He is a co-founder of A.T.A. SpA - Advanced Technology Assessment and the deputy coordinator of EPRIS (European Pharmaceutical Regulation and Innovation Systems) and CERM (Center for the Economic Analysis of Competitiveness, Markets, Regulation).

His current research focuses on industrial organization, network analysis and the economics of science, with particular reference to the life sciences.
