Target Knowledge Discovery

Target Knowledge Discovery (TKD) and Target Knowledge Validation (TKV)

ATA is specialised in automated and high-throughput analysis of data to support pharma&biotech companies, Consultancy/Industry associations and Governments with data mining and intelligence extraction.

High Throughput Data Mining Technology (HTDM) and Semantic FIRE Engine

  • High Volume Analysis (1K-1000K) of documents (scientific literature, patents, clinical trials, txt documents, XML, PDF, etc)
  • Extraction of meaningful relations among concepts like: genes, proteins, drugs and medicinal products, diseases and rare diseases, symptoms, species, molecular function, biological processes, cellular component, companies and many more
  • Networks of relations among the above concepts as reported in literature with links to the underlying documents and ontologies/thesauri.
Relations and data mining offer a full and comprehensive picture of how the scientific community is researching and protecting their IP or what lines of investigation are pursued and which targets/diseases are perceived as priority together with all related data in clinical and patent databases.

Knowing how bioconcepts are related in multiple database (from basic research over to clinical and IP) for any given target or TA and how competitors are researching, establishing collaborations, investing in clinical trials, in which clinical centers and to what extent and what relations among concept have been pursued is paramount for any foresight and business intelligence activity.

This is accomplished within decision time frames (days instead of several months) to exploit and preserve competitive advantage over competitors and with a dynamic approach to understand trends and new lines of R&D, IP protection, alliances, etc.

This analytical approach has been very useful in tracking and identifying potential targets knowing the starting disease or if knowing and having a strong position on a given target to identify related diseases and their environment in terms of other targets, competitors and drugs/chemicals/genes/proteins. The same analytical tool has been used to validate targets selections and R&D programmes or to support further lines of investigation or collaborative agreements or funding procedures.

ATA performs TKD and TKV on a high scale to bring an overall and unbiased analysis of Therapeutic Areas or Targets coupled with statistical parameters and graph outputs for intuitive inspection with added export facilities or its use as input for further and refined searches.

Case Study 1

Starting Position: Set of known targets on which the company had IP and strong expertise

Request:
Run analysis on ATA rare diseases knowlege base to identify potential TAs and related diseases/drugs

Output:
  • Analysis of pubmed literature, clinical trials, patent technology landscape, pharma news and deals in a dynamic setting (time deltas, trend analysis, emergence of new entities).
  • Connections between target and rare disease
  • Relations between target and drugs and centrality values and link to underlying documents
  • Relations between target-drug-disease and centrality values and link to undelying documents
  • Existing interventions within the clinical trials corpus, with link to companies, phase, clinical center and underlying documents
  • Existing patent citation landscape. Semantic analysis of concepts within patent corpus and report on IP protected concepts and relations among competitor technology and science.
  • Key scientists and Key research Institutions or Companies working in the identified TA area, including network of relations among scientists and research institutions based on centrality parameters.

Case Study 2

Starting Position: Understanding of heatlh economics in the UK Cardiovascular Disease community but not the scientific and technology landscape and links between Industry and Academia/No profit

Request:
Analysis of the interconnections within the UK Cardiovascular Disease network among Institutions and/or Industry

Output:
  • Identification of Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) and Key Scientists (KS) and their interconnections withiin the network
  • Analysis of links between Private and Public sector and key Insitutions through statistical analysis
  • Analysis of the current R&D in terms of drugs and diseases (8 year time frame) with statistics and links to underlying documents
  • Dynamic overview of the state of the art technology and scientific advancements with identification of trends and emerging concepts/target/drugs/interventions
